Clifftop Private Residence

Perched on a rugged coastal slope in the Algarve region, this private residence was envisioned as a seamless integration of architecture and terrain. The site presented both beauty and challenge—harsh winds, unstable rock formations, and limited buildable surface. Our team embraced these constraints, designing a home that anchors securely into the cliffs while maximizing panoramic views of the Atlantic.

The structure is vertically stacked across multiple levels, with reinforced concrete slabs and steel framing forming cantilevered terraces that float above the ocean. All materials were selected for marine resistance and long-term durability, with finishes chosen to reflect the rocky hues of the natural surroundings. The interiors emphasize openness, with floor-to-ceiling glazing and minimal partitioning to maintain an uninterrupted sense of scale.

Passive climate strategies were prioritized, including thermal mass cooling, operable shading, and cross-ventilation. Rainwater is harvested from the rooftop and stored in a concealed system for greywater use. Access was created via a narrow carved pathway, and construction required staged crane deliveries due to the remote location.

The project was completed in 11 months, balancing modern design with environmental restraint. The result is a bold, resilient residence that merges with the cliffside rather than overpowering it—both a technical achievement and a visual statement.
